The fixture makes use of off cuts of industry that are typically stored outside as scrap metal. Because of its exposure to the elements, the zinc coating on this particular batch of steel started oxidising, creating a beautiful texture of powdery white on the shiny aluminium. Such batches are typically thought unfit for use because the roughness would show trough a layer of paint. By using this degraded material, we question how value is attributed to steel. Is oxidised sheetmetal junk, or can we on the contrary consider it a precious raw material, much like wine that gets character with age?
Reclaimed steel with clearcoat varnish. Each lamp has a unique texture.
